Description:

ABOUT THIS ROLE:

Holcim US, a leading supplier of quality, construction building materials in the United States, has immediate openings for a Utility Opertaor to support our plant operations in Accokeek, Maryland. This position is primarily responsible or operating multiple pieces of equipment in support of production operations at the quarry.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:

• Inspects and performs preventative maintenance and emergency repairs to a wide variety of mechanical and electronic equipment, e.g., disassembles, cleans, lubricates, and replaces equipment parts as needed; makes minor mechanical repairs.

• Records and reports defects or failures in gas, electricity or water; immediately responds and reports water and gas.

• Monitors equipment and takes reading at designated intervals; tracks the status of the system and prepares reports that account for equipment performance

• Monitor and troubleshoot operating equipment

• Responsible for loading fuel truck at the fuel station

• Following delivery schedules, loading the tank, transporting the fuel to the delivery site, unloading the tank, handling paperwork, and adhering to safety regulations.

• Accurately records all mileage and hours to ensure proper computation

• Operate equipment with adherence to common operational practices including efficient digging and safety

• Ensure heavy equipment is safely and securely stored

• May be required to do other duties to include but not limited to silt and safety fence

• Perform general housekeeping

W HAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

• Good mechanical aptitude and must be able to make minor mechanical repairs for the safe and efficient operation of the plant.

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and/or as part of a team;

• Safety cautious

• Experience working with plant equipment;

• Valid CDL license with Hazmat endorsement

• Basic math and reading skills; ability to write

• Ability to safely and effectively balance multiple projects/tasks

• Must have the ability to work different shifts and overtime. This includes the possibility of short-term and long-term shift reassignment to match the needs of the business.

• Ensure plant adheres to safety and environmental rules

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to work in cold to hot temperatures; work around dust, fumes, and/or moderate to loud noises; work inside or outside

  • Able to lift, pull, carry, and pick-up average to heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds;

  • Able to climb stairs and ladders; walk on paved and unpaved surfaces

  • Ability to bend, stoop, stand, twist, and reach with no limitations

  • Work environment involves some exposure to dangerous hazards or physical risks, which require following strict safety precautions.

• Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Holcim approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Subject to applicable law, employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
